J.J. Redick re-signs

J.J. Redick turned in the best season of his career with Philadelphia during the 2017-18 season, so it’s no surprise both sides came to an agreement on a deal to re-sign him. What does come as a surprise is Redick is signing on another one-year deal worth $12.3 million. He’ll take a significantly smaller amount than he did during the 2017-18 season, making it a cap-friendly deal for the Sixers.

Redick put up a career-high 17.1 points along with 3.0 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game as Philadelphia’s starting shooting guard. He shot a team-high 42 percent from 3-point range, elevating the profile of a team in desperate need of 3-point shooting.

After a five-year postseason hiatus, Redick made his return to the playoffs with the Philadelphia 76ers. He was second on the team in scoring during the playoffs with 18.2 points per contest.

Redick answered the bell in 2017-18 and he’ll need to do the same in 2018-19. With a healthy Markelle Fultz on his tail, he’ll need to show he can do more than shoot the basketball to improve the Sixers’ rotation.
