Drafting Landry Shamet

The Philadelphia 76ers like big guards, so it’s no surprise they took 6’5″ point guard Landry Shamet with the 26th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. Shamet is a sharpshooter as well as a distributor on the offensive end. He put up 14.9 points, 5.2 assists and 3.2 rebounds per contest last season as a sophomore for the Wichita State Shockers. He also shot the ball 44.2 percent from 3-point land as the team’s best 3-point marksman.

Shamet suffered an injury of his own during Summer League play, causing him to miss the remaining games. He suffered a right ankle sprain in his first game in Las Vegas and never returned to action. The injury bug has become a sort of rite of passage for incoming rookies with Philadelphia, so it should come as no surprise for those who’ve been here for a while.

He’s a player that could find himself on the G League circuit for much of the 2018-19 season. With so many guards in the rotation already, he could find playing time hard to come by in the NBA as a rookie.

Grade: B-
