2. Jeremy Lin

Jeremy Lin may never reach the heights of his “Linsanity” days with the New York Knicks, but when healthy, he is a solid point guard. “When healthy” is the operative phrase though.

The 30-year-old point man played in only one game with the Brooklyn Nets last year before he ruptured the patella tendon in his right knee. The injury, combined with the emergence of Spencer Dinwiddie, allowed the Nets to send Lin to Atlanta for a fairly meager return — a second round pick and the draft rights to Isaia Cordinier.

Before the injury, Lin has put together a solid career, boasting averages of 12 points and 4.5 assists [er game with a 15.5 Player Efficiency Rating and a .433/.350/.805 shooting line. While his defense leaves much to be desired, Lin can effectively run the pick-and-roll (1.14 points per possession last year, albeit in just one game) and get to the free throw line. He will be the perfect guard for Young to learn from.

Lin is in the final year of a three-year, $36 million deal that he signed with the Nets in 2016. I don’t think many teams (the smart ones anyway) will mortgage their futures for a fairly expensive rental, especially one that will likely come off the bench for most playoff teams. With that being said, a bounce-back season for Lin may conjure up some trade interest during the winter.
