3. Vince Carter

When the Hawks signed Vince Carter to a league minimum deal several weeks ago, everyone knew they weren’t getting the guy that did this in the 2000 Summer Olympics:

While Carter doesn’t bring fans to their feet with his athleticism anymore, he’ll bring some needed veteran leadership to this young Hawks team. Still, he can be a bit more than a glorified extra coach, even at this stage in his career.

Despite a slight slip last year with the Sacramento Kings, Carter has historically hit the 3-ball at a better than league-average clip as a career 37.3 percent shooter. In a league where the 3-point shot is king, Carter could be a valuable trade commodity for a contending team.

Given his age and contract, the Hawks probably wouldn’t get more than a young fringe player and a second round pick, so there’s a good chance that “Vinsanity” will spent the entire season on the Atlanta roster. However, if he shoots the 3 well and plays good defense (not entirely out of the question, as the Kings actually allowed 3.3 fewer points per 100 possessions when Carter was on the floor), some teams in the playoff hunt may come calling.
