3. Terry Rozier

There’s a very good chance the Celtics will look to trade at least one point guard in the coming few months. Terry Rozier is the first (and least likely) of the candidates to be wearing a different jersey in the not-too-distant future.

Now why on Earth would Boston trade Rozier? He enjoyed a breakout season in 2017-18, capitalizing on Kyrie Irving‘s injury and emerging as a big-time playmaker for the Celtics during their playoff run. Moving him would hurt this roster and piss off a ton of fans in the process, right?

Well yes, but that’s not the point. The point is that the Celtics may not be interested in overpaying for Rozier when he becomes a restricted free agent next offseason. It’s going to be a headache trying to contend with other teams for his services.

Instead of dealing with that, Ainge could decide to send him packing between now and Feb. 7. The Celtics lose an outstanding piece off the bench, but avoid creating more financial problems and ensure they get something in return for Rozier. It’s either that, or probably let him leave via restricted free agency without anything to show for it.

What could they get for Rozier? I won’t speculate at this point, but probably something significant from a club desperate for a playmaking point guard.
