The Atlanta Hawks have been very active this offseason in through the draft and free agency. Can a new coach and new look get them back to the playoffs?

The Atlanta Hawks were one of nine different teams to bring in a new head coach this past offseason. Despite a 213-197 record over five seasons, the team and Mike Budenholzer agreed to part ways. The 2017-18 season was the first since 2006-07 that the Hawks hadn’t made the playoffs.

Having a new coach may be the best for all parties as general manager Travis Schlenk started the rebuilding process last season upon taking over GM duties from Budenholzer. Things got bad quickly for the team as their 24 wins were the fewest since the Hawks only won 13 games back in 2004-05. Now Schlenk has his handpicked head coach in Lloyd Pierce as he handpicks his players.

Schlenk has a past with the Golden State Warriors, so his draft picks should be no surprise this year if he’s trying to mold Atlanta after the Warriors. The Hawks were already a top-10 team in both 3-pointers attempted and 3-pointers made last season. With the likes of Trae Young on the team and additions of Kevin Huerter and Omari Spellman, Pierce should continue to push them in the same direction.

The Atlanta Hawks made a lot of moves in the draft — three first round picks! — as well as through trades and free agent signings. Let’s take a look at how the graded out with each of their moves.
