Saviors new and old were brought to California’s capital this offseason as another Sacramento Kings rebuilding project takes steps in the right direction.

Another summer, another fresh start for the Sacramento Kings.

It’s been 12 years since the Kings last appeared in the NBA playoffs, and 14 years since they won a playoff series. The team has produced one All-Star player in the last decade: DeMarcus Cousins, who earned three All-Star nods with the Kings before he was traded in 2017. Two players from the Cousins deal remain on Sacramento’s roster, and neither of them are regular starters.

Last season, the Kings put together a 27-55 record and wound up with the No. 2 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. They used that pick to select a 19-year-old phenom who could be Sacramento’s best power forward since Chris Webber was the face of the franchise in the early 2000s.

The addition of Marvin Bagley III was the most significant move of the Kings’ offseason. He is the latest in a long line of lottery picks who have been expected to lead the Kings back to … if not glory, than at least relevance.

One of those formerly highly anticipated picks, Ben McLemore, made it back to Sacramento this offseason after his first stint with the team didn’t meet expectations. Was it smart for the Kings to facilitate the return of the Mac?

Here are the grades for each of the Kings’ significant offseason moves.
