Detroit Pistons: 3 goals for Khyri Thomas’ rookie season
By KC Whitten
Coming off a successful collegiate career, Khyri Thomas is looking to emulate that success in Motown. Let’s look at three goals for his rookie season.
Entering the summer with limited financial resources and only one second round draft pick, the Detroit Pistons had to work with other franchises in order to add talent to their roster. On draft night, they traded two future second round draft picks to the Philadelphia 76ers to acquire shooting guard Khyri Thomas at pick No. 38.
Thomas spent three years at Creighton, and exploded offensively last season, scoring 15.1 points per game. Known for his stifling defense, he was named Big East Defensive Player of the Year each of the past two seasons.
Though many second round draft picks never see an NBA court, there are a few that transform into superstars in the league. Draymond Green, DeAndre Jordan and Marc Gasol were all drafted in the second round and have made a huge impact on their respective teams.
Many believe that Thomas was a steal in the second round, and will join the group of second round picks that turn into NBA superstars. He was impressive throughout NBA Summer League, and if he continues to develop during training camp he should receive playing time this season.
Let’s take a look at three goals for Khyri Thomas’ rookie season.
