Drafting Josh Okogie

The Minnesota Timberwolves picked up a nice piece to go forward with when they drafted Josh Okogie with the No. 20 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.

The 6’4″ guard played for two years at Georgia Tech, where he averaged 16.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 43.7 percent from the field and 38.2 percent from 3-point range.

Okogie had a decent Summer League and should be able to step in and make an impact right away for the Wolves — assuming coach Tom Thibodeau gives him an opportunity. He’s a tough, athletic defender who can also attack the rim and score at will.

While I really like Josh Okogie and think he’ll be a nice addition for the Wolves, I can’t help but wonder if Grayson Allen would’ve been the better pick. Both players were available at that point and both give you something different.

As long as Okogie’s jumper translates to the NBA, he was probably the right choice. He’s the exact kind of player that Thibs loves. Hopefully, there will be a similar rise with Okogie as there was with Jimmy Butler.
