Tier 2 – The “Godfathers”

These guys aren’t totally untouchable like Booker and Ayton. If the right offer came, the Phoenix Suns would likely be willing to part with them. Still, “the right offer” would have to be a “Godfather” offer to get them to do it.

Mikal Bridges was also just drafted, and the Suns gave up a decent bit to get him, but he’s not untouchable. They’ll probably want to see what they have in him before they think about making any moves, but he’s not a foundational piece to the degree Booker and Ayton are. He complements them, not vice versa.

Josh Jackson was tough to categorize. On the one hand, he was also drafted fourth overall just last season. Still, a high draft slot doesn’t necessarily guarantee safety, as will be evident later on.

There is some evidence that the front office is unwilling to trade Jackson at all. In last year’s Kyrie Irving sweepstakes, the Phoenix Suns reportedly refused to include Jackson in any trade packages, effectively taking themselves out of the running.

However, that was before the team saw Jackson perform in the NBA, and things might be different now. It’s not that he disappointed in his first year — on the contrary, he showed a lot of great flashes — but he didn’t blow people out of the water like Jayson Tatum or Donovan Mitchell did.

Jackson and Bridges are still obviously so young that no one can be positive what they will develop into yet. It would take an incredible offer that blows the Suns away for them to pull the trigger on a deal involving one of the two wings. Still, neither of them have the super-duper-star potential that Booker and Ayton possess, so they’re one tier below.
