5. Alan Williams

There are more well-established options in the honorable mentions section than Alan Williams, but assuming he’s able to work past the meniscus injury that limited him to just five games last season, this is an underrated option for a team looking for frontcourt insurance.

Big Sauce was a great story for the Phoenix Suns, growing up in the city and eventually getting to call it his NBA home after earning a 10-day contract with the team in 2016. His effort on the glass, impressive production in limited minutes, team-first attitude and highly entertaining bench celebrations made him an instant fan favorite, and the Suns rewarded him with a three-year, $18 million deal in 2017.

Unfortunately, the last two years were non-guaranteed, so Phoenix waived him this summer after he averaged just 4.0 points and 4.4 rebounds per game over his five appearances. Still, the last time he was healthy, Williams enjoyed a career year off the bench, posting 7.4 points and 6.2 boards in just 15.1 minutes a night.

At this point, Big Sauce would probably have to settle for a minimum salary deal, but he’s proven he can put up numbers in a hurry off the bench. Since he’s still only 25 years old, a player like that is worth a look as either a backup or a third-stringer.
