Portland Trail Blazers: Complete 2018 offseason grades
The Portland Trail Blazers made several moves during the summer, but were they enough to keep pace with the other teams in the Western Conference?
The talk of the summer in the Pacific Northwest was how the Portland Trail Blazers were going to recover from their disheartening sweep in the first round of the 2018 NBA Playoffs at the hands of the New Orleans Pelicans. The team had a number of key decisions to make with multiple pending free agents on the roster, but little cap flexibility to work with.
Now, as we are in the dogs days of summer, we have the opportunity to look back at the offseason that has been. The biggest news wasn’t what the team gained, but what they ended up losing. Portland chose to part ways with Ed Davis and Shabazz Napier, with both joining former Blazer Allen Crabbe on the Brooklyn Nets.
Additionally, the team moved on from 2-guard Pat Connaughton. As with Napier, the Blazers chose to not extend him a qualifying offer in restricted free agency. The former baseball pitcher will continue his hoops career with the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Blazers attempted to fill those losses through the draft and free agency, and now have 15 guaranteed contracts on the roster. Did the team improve though? Here is our review of the Portland Trail Blazers’ 2018 offseason, with grades for each transaction.
