Los Angeles Clippers: Recapping Boban Marjanovic’s wild summer
Los Angeles Clippers center Boban Marjanovic doesn’t play major minutes, but that hasn’t stopped him from being a fan favorite or pursuing a career in the movie business.
Boban Marjanovic of the Los Angeles Clippers is one of the most efficient offensive scorers in NBA history, using his massive height and wingspan to score in the post with ease. In 20 games with the Clippers last season, he shot 75.6 percent on shots within 0-3 feet from the basket.
He’s been stuck on the bench for most of his career, however, due to his defensive limitations while guarding more mobile centers. Still, Boban is an intriguing and entertaining player, making big men like Anthony Davis look small.
This past season, the Detroit Pistons traded him to the Clippers alongside forward Tobias Harris, guard Avery Bradley and a future first round pick for Blake Griffin. On a team lacking a clear direction, he was able to play in garbage time and even helped the Clippers overcome a 19-point deficit against the Denver Nuggets. In 15 minutes, he posted 18 points and six rebounds.
Although he already plays in L.A., Boban started his summer by going Hollywood. The 7’3”, 290 pound center was cast as an assassin in the John Wick 3, which will premiere in the summer of 2019. Other notable NBA stars who have roles in movies includes Kyrie Irving in Uncle Drew and LeBron James, who is expected to star in Space Jam 2.
Boban justified the casting decision by showcasing his acting chops. He joined The Ringer for a hilarious table reading of White Chicks. Acting as Brittany and Tiffany, he was able to show his comedic side.
He also displayed wide range of emotions with ESPN’s Michelle Beadle. Reciting movie lines from Rocky IV, Scarface and The Wizard of Oz, Marjanovic was clearly comfortable despite going into the scenes raw.
Boban also spent time in Las Vegas with best friend Tobias Harris. The two are known for their dancing pregame routine, but instead did a segment with Bleacher Report. Controlling the actions of their hosts, Marjanovic and Harris forced them to prank tourists.
The Bobi and Tobi show was not over, with the two later confronting a fan of the rival Golden State Warriors and dominating a couple in a ultra-competitive game of bean bag toss.
Despite his massive off-the-court popularity, it’s still somewhat unclear what Marjanovic’s role will be in the NBA. More and more frontcourt players are required to shoot and defend on the perimeter, two of Marjanovic’s weaknesses. As the game’s pace continues to increase, opposing teams are able to expose his deficiencies to keep him from dominating.
With star center DeAndre Jordan opting out of his contract to sign with the Dallas Mavericks and Boban working to expand his range, he could find playing time outside of the final minutes of a blowout loss. if Doc Rivers can somehow find a way to keep him on the floor without hurting the team’s chances at victory, then Boban and the Clippers will take the league by storm.
