3. De’Anthony Melton

De’Anthony Melton may be the most exciting prospect the Rockets have, but that also makes him the most intriguing trade throw-in for teams considering taking on monster contracts.

That’s why the Rockets’ 2018 first round pick finds himself at the start of this list. We all know Houston is trying to move some pieces around, particularly an overpaid power forward who we’ll get to later. However, in order for another club to partake in a salary dump, Morey is going to have to include some considerable incentives.

Chances are, though, he’ll be very hesitant to involve Melton. Especially after a strong effort in NBA Summer League, the Rockets won’t be jumping at the opportunity to ship him away.

Unfortunately, it may be necessary. That’s the price of pawning off huge financial mistakes on other franchises. They’re going to want something in return for ridding Houston of awful past decisions. In the case of the player I’m referencing, future draft compensation may not be enough.

Do the Rockets want to mortgage their future in hopes of putting together a championship-caliber roster this season? Probably not, but it all depends on how things pan out leading up to February’s trade deadline. If the right offer comes across Morey’s table, he may be convinced to part ways with Melton.

For now, though, don’t feel too worried about him wearing a different jersey in the near future.
