2. Increase his assists per game

As previously stated, Griffin’s assists per game have gone up year after year. During his brief stint with the Pistons last season, he averaged a career-high 6.2 per game. While Jackson’s health will have something to do with Griffin’s ball-handling, Casey should scheme ways to let Griffin initiate the offense. His ability to pass out of the post to shooters gives him great value that the team has lacked.

After adding Glenn Robinson III to increase their shooting presence from 3-point range, they have even more threats from outside. Lineups with Griffin as the center surrounded by four shooting threats should be very prominent. His height allows him to pass well without risk of them being deflected initially. It’s rare for players his height to be good passers, but he can only be better this season in that area.

Griffin finished 17th in the NBA in assists per game last season. Only four forwards, including “point-forward” Ben Simmons finished above him on that list. While he shouldn’t be expected to finish in the top-10, moving into the top-13 or so should be a very reasonable goal for him. The players with the best offenses are the ones near the top of the board. Detroit’s offense slumped last season, but it should bounce back to the benefit of Griffin and others under Casey.
