3. Shoot 80 percent from the free throw line

After struggling early in his career, Griffin has consistently improved from the free throw line over time. That number rose to 78.5 percent last season, and it’s very conceivable for him to reach the big 80 percent mark this year. It’s rare for power forwards or centers to be that accurate from the line. Only nine shot at least 80 percent last season. Only 11 shot better than Griffin’s mark of 78.5 percent.

Griffin’s attempts per game have fluctuated throughout his career. However, that number has gradually decreased over time. This season, if he takes on his expected role, that number should go back up. He needs to maintain his efficiency with the increased workload. Griffin tied for 17th with 5.7 attempts per game last season. Six power forwards shot the same or more attempts than Griffin. Only Kristaps Porzingis and Anthony Davis shot better than Griffin.

It pays to have good free throw shooters on the floor at the end of games. Andre Drummond has been working on his, but he’s not a knockdown shooter yet. Jackson is an excellent player from the line. Griffin can give the team a second knockdown player from the line if he accomplishes this goal. He’s added more and more finesse to his game during his career. Despite being “easy,” free throws require a ton of finesse for bigs. Griffin can add just the right touch.
