Overall

The biggest headline of the Orlando Magic’s offseason was drafting Bamba, but if you revisit this three years from now, their most important move may have been re-signing Gordon.

Bamba has the potential to be a Defensive Player of the Year, league-leading shot-blocker type of contributor. Gordon can develop into an All-Star and mainstream popular celebrity. If this is a friendly competitive race to be the face of the franchise, Gordon got a head start and he’s closer to the finish line.

Grant may be Orlando’s most underrated acquisition, a possible starter the team managed to bring in with an addition-by-subtraction trade. If nothing else, Grant brings depth to a backcourt rotation that features shooting guard Evan Fournier — the team’s leading scorer last season with 17.8 points per game — D.J. Augustin and Terrence Ross.

Without adding a true superstar, the Magic are not going to suddenly go from winning 20-30 games each season to a 50-win playoff team overnight.

There is still a lot of work to be done in Orlando — perhaps one or two more lottery picks needed to solidify the foundation — but the 2018 offseason was a positive sign of things to come.
