The Oklahoma City Thunder have had a great free agency period. Here’s why the re-signing of Jerami Grant is a tremendous move for the future of the franchise.

The Oklahoma City Thunder had a thoroughly disappointing season in 2017-18. It was due to the hope given by the incredible trades that bought Paul George from the Indiana Pacers and Carmelo Anthony from the New York Knicks.

George was a success, Anthony was not. However, with Melo now gone, Jerami Grant has the chance to garner some more minutes to build on the success of last season. Grant’s success in 2017-18 cannot be measured by numbers, but should be measured by his impact.

Overall, Grant averaged 8.4 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game. None of these were career highs, and with the exception of blocks, these numbers were only slightly above his career averages.

It was the impact that he had on the game when he was in that stood out, however. During that playoff comeback against the Utah Jazz, it was Grant on the court helping the team keep things competitive, not Melo. Grant’s energy was infectious, both on the offensive and defensive ends.

With the moves made by the Oklahoma City Thunder in this free agency period, here are three reasons the re-signing of Jerami Grant is a good move.
