Overall

Due to salary cap restrictions, it was expected to be a quiet summer in Detroit. The Pistons made their big splash in January when they traded for Blake Griffin. With only one draft pick, and limited funds to acquire free agents, fans weren’t expecting big changes to the roster.

Trading into the draft for Khyri Thomas was a great decision, and he could become one of the surprising players in the 2018 NBA Draft. Bruce Brown Jr. has the potential to be one of the better defensive guards in the league. If he can improve his offensive skill-set, he should be able to contribute to the roster in the future.

Though the Pistons made some good draft decisions, there were some potential blunders in free agency. The signing of Glenn Robinson III is questionable since he’s failed to make an impact his first four years in the NBA. Instead of signing Jose Calderon, the Pistons should’ve picked up Shabazz Napier.

It’s doubtful that the current roster will win the championship next season, but it should be an exciting season in Motown. The Pistons haven’t been a legitimate playoff contender in over 10 years. Though the team is unlikely to defeat the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers in the postseason, it does have the potential to be the best team the city of Detroit has seen in over a decade.
