1. Oct. 19 vs. Indiana Pacers

This season the Milwaukee Bucks will at long last move into their new arena, built with the help of the public for the Bucks and a number of other events. Last month, a 25-year partnership was announced with Fiserv Inc., a financial-tech company based just outside of Milwaukee. The “Fiserv Forum” will see its first regular season action on Oct. 19.

The Bucks played games at the BMO Harris Bradley Center for 30 years, after a long history at the uniquely styled “MECCA” that was honored last season. The new arena, built in the heart of downtown, is not simply a basketball arena for the Bucks and the city of Milwaukee. For a city and team dealing with the effects of racial tension, the new building is part of a movement to help heal the divide in our country, one game at a time.

That begins against the Indiana Pacers, who are more than just a token opponent to face. With the Cavaliers in line to slip down the standings with LeBron James in L.A., there will be a new division winner next season, almost certainly either the Pacers or the Bucks. If the Bucks have hope because of their young star in Antetokounmpo, the Pacers and Victor Oladipo have plans of their own.

Milwaukee will not only be displaying its new arena, it will displaying its new status as a team with great expectations. The excuses of the past have dropped away. If the Bucks are going to show the league they are to be taken seriously, now is the time. All 17,500 fans will be able to see that start of this new era in person on Oct. 19, and fans around the world will have at least 82 opportunities to see the Bucks in action this upcoming season.
