Overall

To say it’s been a busy offseason thus far in Brooklyn would be an understatement. Marks inherited a mess of a franchise two years ago, and was given the unenviable task of cleaning it up and building a contender. He made strides in the right direction this summer.

Sure, the Brooklyn Nets aren’t likely to compete for a playoff spot in 2018-19. However, the decisions made the past couple of months were to set up the team for success in the future. Through several trades, they were able to acquire numerous first and second round draft picks.

Marks was able to add depth to the point guard position with the addition of Shabazz Napier. Kenneth Faried and Ed Davis should be able to shore up the frontcourt defensively, an area in which the Nets struggled immensely last season.

The Nets are one of the younger teams in the NBA, with an average age of 25.3 years old. With the draft picks in their possession, there’s no need to tank next season for the chance at a lottery pick. With an estimated $70 million in cap space available next summer, if the young Nets can show improvement this season, Brooklyn could be a primary target for free agents in 2019.
