Brooklyn Nets: Complete 2018 offseason grades
By KC Whitten
The Brooklyn Nets entered the offseason in the midst of rebuilding the franchise. Let’s take a look and grade each offseason move.
The past three seasons have been brutal for the Brooklyn Nets. The team has lost more than 60 games twice, and with a combined record of 69-177, has been a mainstay at the bottom of the Eastern Conference.
Management placed the team in purgatory when it decided to chase a championship in the Deron Williams era several years ago. The trading away of draft picks to acquire an aging Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, along with the ridiculous contract given to Joe Johnson, strapped the team financially.
General manager Sean Marks has kept himself busy cleaning up the mess he inherited from his predecessor. The Nets seem to have taken an approach similar to the Philadelphia 76ers of a few years ago. Like general manager Sam Hinkie in Philly, Marks has absorbed bad contracts from teams in order to acquire draft picks. Though they’ve taken a cap hit initially, the hope is he can rebuild the team through the draft instead of free agency.
It’s been a busy summer for Marks and the Nets, and the franchise has embraced the rebuilding process. Let’s take a look and grade each decision made in Brooklyn this offseason.
