Ranking the top 10 games of the 2018-19 NBA schedule
6. Nov. 21, 2018 — Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Los Angeles Lakers (ESPN)
The last time LeBron James came home in a different uniform, it was quite a hostile reunion. With the King abdicating his Eastern throne to hold court in L.A., there will still be plenty of resentment and bitter feelings when he makes his 2018-19 return to Quicken Loans Arena.
Sure, everyone could sense the Cleveland Cavaliers had little chance of convincing him to re-sign this summer. James fulfilled his promise to the Cavs faithful with that unforgettable 2016 championship run, and after returning home in the first place to keep that promise, no one should criticize him for his decision to join the Los Angeles Lakers.
However, you’re kidding yourself if you think there won’t be a smattering of boos in his first game back at the Q, because once again, LeBron’s departure leaves the Cavs in a state of disarray where securing the 7- or 8-seed would be a best-case scenario. You can be guaranteed Kevin Love and even rookie Collin Sexton will be on a mission to prove the future is still bright in the Land.
This homecoming will be nowhere near as dramatic as the last time around, but since it was the Lakers that LeBron chose, there’s reason to be upset. LeBron James is the greatest Cavalier of all time, and there should be plenty of cheers when he returns, but the mix of adoration, sadness and anger will be worth tuning in for.
