Bringing back Ian Clark

The Pelicans signed reserve guard Ian Clark to a one-year, minimum contract, per Yahoo! Sports Shams Charania. Clark averaged career-highs of 7.4 points and 1.5 assists per game in 19.7 minutes off the bench.

Clark is a capable 3-point shooter with career clip of 34.6 percent, and only improves when given consistent minutes. In the month of April, he played a season-high 25.5 minutes per game and went on to average 11.1 point and 2.1 assists.

The 27-year-old is behind Jrue Holiday, Elfrid Payton and E’twaun Moore on the depth chart. It’s worth experimenting with Clark in more minutes, however, as he always seems to step up when injuries hit.

Clark is one of the most resilient journeymen in the NBA, and that only makes bringing him on for one more season a good move. He brings a lot to the second unit and could flourish if Alvin Gentry and company allow him a bigger leash.
