Washington Wizards: Complete 2018 offseason grades
Overall
Things will look a lot different for the Washington Wizards, at least in the frontcourt in 2018-19. Compared to what they had before, it’s an upgrade, at least on paper. The addition of Troy Brown Jr. from the draft gives them a solid wing with scoring ability. Issuf Sanon also gives them a guard for the future to develop.
Big man Thomas Bryant adds a solid big man with potential. He could find himself in the G League, even if it’s briefly, but if he excels, Scott Brooks could find a place for him in the rotation. Jeff Green provides a solid option off the bench should Porter or Oubre find themselves overwhelmed as small-ball 4s.
Like most things, there’s always a wild card. In this situation, the wild card is Dwight Howard. Howard hasn’t been on a team like the Wizards before. They’re a team with two dynamic scorers in the backcourt. Given that scenario, he’ll need to approach his role a bit differently for this group to be successful.
On the bright side, if things don’t work out, the Washington Wizards will have some cap space to work with as there are a few expiring deals on the books.
