Selecting Issuf Sanon
The Wizards were also thinking about the future in this year’s NBA Draft. They selected 18-year-old Issuf Sanon, a Ukranian point guard with potential to boast. Sanon looks like more of a draft-and-stash selection by the club than anything else.
Last season, he was a member of the Slovenian club, Petrol Olimpija Ljubljana. He averaged 6.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.1 steals through 22 appearances with the team. After entering his name in the draft, he did make an appearance in Summer League for the Wizards.
During his time, he averaged 2.3 points, 1.5 steals and 1.3 assists in four appearances. Although his playing time was limited, the 6’4″ combo guard showed little hesitation getting adjusted to the NBA game.
He’ll spend at least another season in Europe before joining the NBA ranks, though, making him a future possibility for the 2019-20 season. Based on his film, he can get up the floor and has quite the decision-making ability for such a young guard.
