Chicago Bulls

Key additions: Wendell Carter Jr. (draft), Chandler Hutchison (draft), Jabari Parker (free agency)

Key subtractions: David Nwaba (free agency), Jerian Grant (trade), Noah Vonleh (free agency)

The Chicago Bulls had a good draft. The Chicago Bulls protected themselves against the injury-proneness of their two marquee free agency additions. The Chicago Bulls have an intriguing blend of young talent.

With that being said, what in the name of Benny the Bull are you doing, Chicago Bulls? When the Sacramento Kings — no, not just the Sacramento Kings, but the KANGZ — marched in with a four-year, $80 million offer for Zach LaVine, a player whose Bulls uniform was really just dyed red from all the rust coming off a season-ending ACL tear in 2017, that was the time to walk away.

Not only did Chicago match the offer, but then the front office went out and signed Jabari Parker — a player who looked even worse after making his way back from not one, but two ACL tears — to a two-year, $40 million deal.

To be fair, there are injury provisions in both contracts, and the second year of Parker’s contract is a team option. There are protections against the worst-case scenario, and bringing home a Chi-town kid is an admittedly cool story. But Parker’s best position is the 4, where Lauri Markkanen and Bobby Portis currently operate. Good luck playing him at the 3 alongside LaVine at the 2 and defending anyone! Thank God for that Wendell Carter Jr. pick ….

Grade: D+
