Utah Jazz

Key additions: Grayson Allen (draft)

Key subtractions: Jonas Jerebko (free agency)

The Utah Jazz mostly kept it in-house this summer. In fact, their only notable new arrival came through the draft in Grayson Allen, as the Jazz traded their second round pick away.

For a young team that could be pushing for the 3-seed in the West next season, that’s perfectly fine. Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert, Joe Ingles and Ricky Rubio were already under contract for next year, and Utah prized continuity in the offseason by re-signing Derrick Favors, Dante Exum and Raul Neto. They even brought up Georges Niang for good measure.

The Jazz are going to be a very tough team in 2018-19, so it’s hard to penalize them too much for their summer. However, even if the second year of the Favors deal (two years, $32 million) is non-guaranteed, three years and $33 million is a LOT to commit to an injury-prone point guard who can’t shoot like Exum.

Perhaps this major gamble will pay off, but based on middling on-court results that have come only intermittently when he’s actually been on the court, the Exum overpay brings Utah’s summer grade down a bit.

Grade: B-
