Sacramento Kings

Key additions: Marvin Bagley III (draft), Nemanja Bjelica (free agency), Yogi Ferrell (free agency), Ben McLemore (trade), Deyonta Davis (trade)

Key subtractions: Garrett Temple (trade), Vince Carter (free agency)

I don’t hate the Marvin Bagley pick. I really don’t. I’ll admit that he’s a flawed prospect who may have to work harder on the weaknesses in his game to assimilate and find his position at the next level, but he performed well enough in spurts at NBA Summer League to show people he *shouldn’t* be a bust.

With that being said, taking him over Luka Doncic feels shortsighted, and the rest of the Sacramento Kings‘ additions this summer were fairly bizarre.

Yogi Ferrell for a backcourt that already includes De’Aaron Fox, Frank Mason III, Bogdan Bogdanovic and Buddy Hield? Sure. Overpaying Nemanja Bjelica for a frontcourt that already had Bagley, Harry Giles, Skal Labissiere and Willie-Cauley Stein? Why not. Trading a useful veteran like Garrett Temple to run back the failed Ben McLemore experiment? LET’S GO, KANGZ.

Throw in the fact that the Kings poached Ferrell and Bjelica from teams they had already agreed to deals with and it wasn’t the most respectable summer for Sacramento. The emphasis is still on the youth, and Bagley plus a healthy Giles will help there, but surrounding them with accompanying talent may be difficult if this summer is any indication.
