Philadelphia 76ers

Key additions: Zhaire Smith (draft), Landry Shamet (draft), Shake Milton (draft), Wilson Chandler (trade), Mike Muscala (trade)

Key subtractions: Ersan Ilyasova (free agency), Marco Belinelli (free agency), Justin Anderson (trade), Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot (trade), Richaun Holmes (trade)

Like their main Eastern rivals in Boston, the Philadelphia 76ers were unable to swing for the fences this summer, missing out on the likes of LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George and instead opting to re-signing on their own free agents.

J.J. Redick is back on another one-year deal after his career year in 2017-18, and so is Amir Johnson to provide frontcourt insurance. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Ersan Ilyasova, Marco Belinelli or Richaun Holmes, the latter of which was given up for virtually nothing.

Young wings like Justin Anderson and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot were moved in the three-team Carmelo Anthony deal that netted Mike Muscala, while prized rookie addition Zhaire Smith will be missing time with a Jones fracture in his foot. The curse of Sixers rookies continues, but at least they added a potentially valuable 2021 first-rounder from Miami (via Phoenix) in the exchange.

The main addition here is Wilson Chandler, a multi-positional defender who may be able to help the Sixers take the next step toward contending for the Eastern belt, as long as he looks more alive than he did last year. Mostly though, Philly will be relying on growth from Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons and especially Markelle Fultz to surpass the Celtics in the conference hierarchy.
