New York Knicks

Key additions: Kevin Knox (draft), Mitchell Robinson (draft), Mario Hezonja (free agency), Noah Vonleh (free agency)

Key subtractions: Michael Beasley (free agency), Kyle O’Quinn (free agency), Troy Williams (free agency)

It was an understated summer for the New York Knicks, who added a few sneaky good pieces but also lost a few sneaky good ones.

The Knicks made out like bandits in the draft, snagging Kevin Knox in the first round (one of Summer League’s biggest standouts) and Mitchell Robinson in the second (ditto). Taking one-year fliers on young free agents with untapped potential like Mario Hezonja and Noah Vonleh makes sense for this team as well.

Losing Michael Beasley weakens the second unit, as do the losses of Kyle O’Quinn and Troy Williams. Considering all three of those players were signed to bargain contracts in free agency, it’s a little disappointing the Knicks didn’t consider keeping at least one of O’Quinn or Williams.

Still, with the timetable for Kristaps Porzingis‘ return still being unknown, the Knicks got younger and arguably worse this summer. That’s perfectly fine for a team that might wind up having no say in whether it tanks away the 2018-19 campaign, freeing up ample minutes to let David Fizdale see what he has in his rookies, Hezonja and Vonleh.

Grade: B-
