Minnesota Timberwolves

Key additions: Josh Okogie (draft), Keita Bates-Diop (draft), Anthony Tolliver (free agency), James Nunnally (free agency)

Key subtractions: N/A

No one should be surprised Jimmy Butler turned down the Minnesota Timberwolves‘ contract extension. Financially, he can make way more money as a free agent next summer, so this doesn’t necessarily mean he wants out or that he won’t re-sign with the team next summer.

However, the signs coming out of Minnesota right now aren’t encouraging, with reports surfacing that he’s frustrated with the work ethic of Karl-Anthony Towns and the other young Wolves. This comes after reports that KAT was unhappy with the front office, which came after rumblings that Andrew Wiggins was unhappy with his role.

On that front, this was a pretty bad summer for the Wolves. There weren’t any blockbuster moves, and internal growth for the Big 3 remains this team’s biggest hope. However, at least the front office did a better job of rounding out the bench, starting in the draft, where they did well to get both Josh Okogie and second round steal Keita Bates-Diop.

With Jamal Crawford still unsigned after opting out of the final year of his contract, the Wolves brought in Anthony Tolliver and James Nunnally to provide the second unit with 3-point shooting. Here’s hoping Tom Thibodeau actually uses his bench for once. Re-signing Derrick Rose still feels dumb with minutes being stolen away from plus-minus darling Tyus Jones, but Thibs gonna Thibs.
