3 shocking facts about Stephen Curry’s 2015-16 MVP season

3. Greatest offensive season ever
The first fact we will look at is all of the records that Stephen Curry broke this season. This was truly the greatest shooting season by any player in NBA history.
Before 2015-16, the record for most 3-pointers made in a single season was 286, set by Curry in 2014-15. However, he would destroy his own record this season, knocking down 402 3-pointers. To make this stat more impressive, Curry shot 45.4 percent from the 3-point line.
Granted, he attempted an NBA-record 886 3-pointers, which is an insane amount of attempts. In all of NBA history, only 15 players have attempted more than 600 3-pointers in a single season. Of all these players, Curry’s 45.4 percent shooting split is the highest percentage of the group.
Staying with the theme of scoring, Curry averaged 30.1 points while making only 10.2 field goals a game. He is one of five players in NBA history to accomplish this feat. However, Curry attempted over 300 fewer free throws than anyone else on this list. This means his 2015-16 season was by far the most efficient scoring season the NBA has ever seen. He was scoring at an unprecedented rate.
Curry also became the first player to score 30+ points a game while being a part of the 50-40-90 club (50 percent shooting from the field, 40 percent from the 3-point line and 90 percent from the free throw line in a single season). He actually formed a club of his own, shooting above 45 percent from the 3-point line. This makes Curry the only player in NBA history to shoot this well from all three spots on the floor.
