The Utah Jazz have had a fairly uneventful 2018 offseason. That doesn’t mean grades can’t be given out for the moves made so far.

The Utah Jazz are a small market team. Historically they’re not known for making splashy moves, either via free agency or via trade, often opting to re-sign their own free agents. This offseason was no different.

To date, the Jazz have only lost two of their free agents. Jonas Jerebko was waived and promptly signed with the Golden State Warriors, and Erick McCree was waived and currently remains a free agent. Every other impending free agent that Utah had has since received a new contract of varying lengths and financial commitments.

As it’s been touched on by yours truly plenty of times, the Jazz are making it clear that they’re betting on internal improvement. There’s nothing inherently wrong with the approach; roster continuity is rare in today’s NBA and there’s something to be said for having faith in your guys.

Unfortunately, a lot of NBA fans and (some) writers are all about the big moves like LeBron James signing with the Los Angeles Lakers and Paul George re-signing with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Unlike their Western Conference counterparts, the Jazz are going the road less traveled.

It’s time to see if they’re on the right trail.
