Los Angeles Clippers: Complete 2018 offseason grades
Signing Mike Scott
Surely, there are some Clippers fans who think of The Office when they hear “Mike Scott.” That may change very quickly.
Scott had an underrated 2017-18 campaign for the Washington Wizards. What did he excel at? Scott shot a career high 52.7 percent from the field last year and also drained 40.5 percent of his 3-pointers, another career best.
Technically a combo forward, Scott serves best at the 4 position. He will battle for frontcourt minutes but should find his way into some solid floor time. It is his contract, however, that will prove to be the real value.
Scott was brought in using part of the mid-level exception, meaning his salary will not count against the luxury tax. It is also a one-year deal. Essentially, the Clippers took a flier on journeyman who is looking to earn a big contract, but they did not have to sacrifice any future cap space to do so.
