Los Angeles Lakers: 3 reasons LeBron James could win 2018-19 NBA MVP
1. He’s LeBron James
James is the best basketball player on the planet right now. He may be 33 years old, but that didn’t stop him from nearly winning the MVP award last season. What’s to keep him from doing it this season, especially with expectations so much lower in Los Angeles?
I mean, he’s already got four MVP awards to his name so far. On top of that, he’s been the runner-up on three separate occasions. Put simply, LeBron’s sheer dominance and unparalleled value is undeniable by even the most stubborn of voters.
What I’m saying is that even trying to make the argument that James isn’t a top MVP candidate is asinine. The modern-day GOAT has aged like fine wine, developing a post game, dangerous 3-point dagger and fear-inducing, chase-down shot-blocking. His defense is suspect at times, but that’s what happens when you’re the whole offense as he was a season ago in Cleveland.
With more offensive weapons in Los Angeles, though, James should be able to play a more well-rounded game in 2018-19. The hope is we shouldn’t see nearly as much of this type of defensive effort. That’ll obviously help when the votes are cast at season’s end.
But really, come on. How much convincing do you need here? This is LeBron James we’re talking about. He’s right up there with the greatest basketball players of all time. You better believe he’ll be in the MVP race until the very end, no matter which team he’s on.
As it so happens, though, he’s on the Lakers. Make that nine NBA MVPs in franchise history?
