Could LeBron James win his fifth NBA MVP award during his first season with the Los Angeles Lakers? Based on these reasons, the answer is an emphatic “yes.”
Being in the MVP race comes with the territory when you’re LeBron James. He’s no stranger to the award — he’s already won it four times and come up just short on several other occasions. How high are his chances heading into his first season with the Los Angeles Lakers?
Well, pretty high. In fact, according to Odds Shark, LeBron is the odds-on favorite to walk away with the honor when the 2018-19 NBA season finally comes to a close. However, what the oddsmakers think isn’t really my concern today.
Today, I’m focused on figuring out what the real reasons are for James’ candidacy. There are a couple of on-court reasons, along with some other factors that have played a role in determining past MVPs. The point I’m trying to make here is that it isn’t as clear-cut as Vegas odds.
However you’d like to look at it is up to you. As for myself, I’m going to take a longer look at why James’ first year on the Lake Show could very well yield significant personal accomplishment for a man who’s already climbed to the top of basketball’s Mount Everest.
All metaphors aside, let’s dive into what makes LeBron such an exciting candidate for the 2018-19 NBA MVP. Trust me when I say that there’s plenty for Lakers fans to be stoked about in this regard.
