Houston Rockets: 3 reasons Carmelo Anthony is a bad move
1. Can he accept a diminished role?
Despite coming off a season in which he wasn’t all that good, Carmelo still has plenty left to give to an NBA team.
His only issue is his unwillingness to accept a lesser role, his downfall with the Oklahoma City Thunder and what will likely lead to his demise this season.
As one of the most dangerous offensive talents, Anthony would be phenomenal coming off the bench. He wouldn’t have to worry about defense. He would match up with lesser opponents, and Houston would probably let him take all the shots he wants.
Alas, his ego continues to get in his own way, as he once again stated he won’t be coming off the bench as a member of the Rockets.
Houston isn’t in need of another star who can carry the load offensively. The front office probably wouldn’t have even considered bringing in Melo’ had free agency gone a little differently, but now the two sides have come together and must make it work in order to compete for a title.
Talent wise, Anthony isn’t as washed up as his image would suggest, but if he isn’t willing to sacrifice in the name of winning his value will only be so high when it comes at the expense of the team’s success.
