The Nikola Jokic contract

This was an obvious one. Nikola Jokic is extremely good at basketball, so the Nuggets did what was necessary to ensure Nikola Jokic would continue being extremely good at basketball for the Denver Nuggets for a long time.

Jokic’s $148 million max contract will keep him in Denver for the next five years and that’s really the only notable part of this: it’ll be five years.

Jokic’s contract, unlike those of most max-salary stars, does not contain a player option. That’s a monumental win for Denver.

Otherwise, everything about Jokic’s new contract is standard, which makes it boring. Jokic is a max-caliber player. He got a max contract. There’s not a lot to discuss here, but Denver deserves the highest of marks for ensuring that Jokic will be a Nugget for as long as possible.
