Bringing up Monte Morris

Monte Morris was Denver’s other two-way player in 2017-18 and his signing to an NBA contract is a testament to how well Denver used the new type of contract/extra roster spots last season.

Morris was an analytics darling in the 2017 NBA Draft and proceeded to stand out in the G-League in 2017-18 and excel during 2018 Summer League.

On a three-year minimum contract, Morris offers the Nuggets badly-needed point guard depth, especially given the specific questions surrounding Denver’s current backup point guard.

Morris’ impact on the Nuggets will likely be negligible, but he offers organizational depth at a position of need, and the intangible message of promoting two-ways from within is a good one.

Denver earns a slight demerit because there were more proven and versatile depth guards out there (Devin Harris, for one), but this was a sensible move.
