Orlando Magic: 3 early reasons for caution next season

2. Frontcourt minutes
Although moving Biyombo was a good piece of business, the elephant in the room still remains how the frontcourt minutes will be split on this team.
Isaac only played 27 games in his rookie season because of injury, and will look to have a bigger role and impact this time out. Bamba wasn’t brought in collect dust on the bench, while Aaron Gordon just got an extension this summer and is a big part of the Magic’s future plans.
Add the potentially resurgent Vucevic to the mix, as well as a veteran in Jonathon Simmons who will look to bounce back from a disappointing first season in Orlando, and it is hard to divvy up the playing time.
The good news is the roster is becoming a more versatile one as the front office selects players who can play across and defend multiple positions. Unfortunately, the trade-off at the moment is that the makeup is too top-heavy with frontcourt players.
We didn’t even mention the impressive Khem Birch (who can step into Biyombo’s role at a fraction of the cost), the newly added Mozgov (who will probably be paid to stay away) and small forwards like Evan Fournier and Terrence Ross.
The way the roster is constructed now makes it appear ripe for a trade, but until then, head coach Steve Clifford will have a tough time trying to keep so many bigs happy.
