After a lengthy negotiation process, the Houston Rockets have re-signed center Clint Capela. Let’s examine why this was a great move.

It took almost a month before the Houston Rockets finally came to an agreement with their restricted free agent center Clint Capela. The Rockets faithful can finally breathe a sigh of relief as the 24-year-old rejoins the team on a five-year, $90 million extension that will keep him in Houston for the foreseeable future.

The team now has its most important three players locked up on long-term deals, setting the stage for what Rockets fans hope is a long period of success and growth of the franchise that will finally put them back in the NBA Finals.

There are no team or players options included in the deal, and it is the richest contract Capela has signed during his short NBA career. Bringing back Capela along with James Harden and Chris Paul, plus the addition of Carmelo Anthony, gives the Rockets have one of the most formidable groups in the Western Conference and around the league.

The Rockets have set themselves up for long-term success, but they understand the goal in front of them is to knock off the Golden State Warriors. The return of Clint Capela is a big step towards challenging the Dubs once again, so let’s look at some more specific reasons why this was such a great move.
