Golden State Warriors: Ranking the 30 best Warriors ever
By Tony Pesta
2. Wilt Chamberlain
Stats: 429 GP, 41.7 PPG, 25.1 RPG, 50.6% FG.
Let’s take a look at where Wilt Chamberlain falls on the Warriors’ all-time franchise leaders lists:
Chamberlain is first in total points (17,763) and points per game (41.7). He is second in total rebounds (10,768) and first in rebounds per game (25.1). He is also first in win shares (112.4) and first in Player Efficiency Rating (30.2). He was probably the leader in blocks too, but the NBA didn’t keep track of that statistic at the time. Oh, and Chamberlain accomplished all of this while playing 10,000 fewer minutes than the franchise leader.
Obviously, Wilt was incredible. He fills nearly every record book in the NBA. With the Warriors, Chamberlain averaged 37.6 points per game as a rookie. This is the most points per game ever averaged by a rookie. In his third season, Chamberlain put up 50.4 points a night. Of course, this is the highest scoring average in the history of the NBA. During this season, Chamberlain had a stretch where he posted 70.2 points and 26.4 rebounds a game.
Chamberlain led the league in scoring seven times, rebounding 11 times and even assists in the 1967-68 season. He eventually won two NBA championships and countless other awards. Chamberlain is easily one of the greatest to ever play the game. However, there is one player that stands above him on this list.
