The Golden State Warriors drafted Mitch Richmond with the fifth overall pick in the 1988 NBA Draft. Richmond was an instant star there. As a rookie, he put up 22.0 points and 5.9 rebounds a game. Richmond was named to the All-Rookie First Team and won the Rookie of the Year Award.

He continued to shine in the playoffs that season, scoring 20.1 points, grabbing 7.3 rebounds and acquiring 1.8 steals per game. This performance helped propel the Warriors to the second round of the playoffs.

The 1990-91 NBA season would be Richmond’s final season with the team. In this season, he had some of his best games. For example, Richmond had a game in which he racked up 40 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and seven steals. This moment was a part of an 11-game stretch in which Richmond averaged 30.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.8 steals a game.

In only three seasons, Richmond proved to be one of the most talented offensive players in the league. In addition to this, he was a premier defender. This made Richmond extremely valuable. After being traded to the Sacramento Kings in the 1991-92 season, he went on to make six All-Star games. He was also named to five All-NBA teams and won a championship before retiring. Richmond is forever remembered in the Hall of Fame.
