The Golden State Warriors drafted Jamaal Wilkes with the 11th pick in the 1974 NBA Draft. Wilkes was a great player from the start. In his rookie season, he averaged 14.2 points and 8.2 rebounds a game. Consequently, Wilkes was crowned as the 1974-75 Rookie of the Year.

The next year, Wilkes raised the bar for himself. Putting up 17.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game, he became an All-Star. Wilkes had proven to be an above-average scorer while also being a premier defender. From 1975-77, Wilkes was selected to two All-Defensive Second Teams.

After his third season with the Warriors, Wilkes was shipped to Los Angeles. For a six-year stretch with the Lakers, he averaged 19.9 points and 1.3 steals per game. Wilkes was a key part of three championships won by the Lakers. Wilkes’ contributions solidified him as a legend. Later on, he would be enshrined in the Hall of Fame.
