Re-signing Dirk Nowitzki

Dallas also agreed to re-sign Dirk Nowitzki to a one-year, $5 million contract, per Marc Stein. Nowitzki will be entering what will be an NBA-record 21st consecutive season with the same team.

Similar to other franchise faces like LeBron James and Tim Duncan, the Germanator has been the model of consistency while avoiding off-the-court issues. He’ll also bridge the gap and help out incoming International players like Luka Doncic, Ryan Broekhoff and Ding Yanyuhang.

Despite turning 40, Nowitzki’s game is pretty much ageless. He averaged 12.0 points and 5.7 rebounds per game on .456/.409/.898 shooting splits in 2017-18.

This upcoming season offers Nowitzki the opportunity to pass Wilt Chamberlain on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. With LeBron James breathing down his neck and likely to pass him early next season, he’ll finish in sixth place.

Being able to bring back one of the best power forwards and players of all time is an honor for Dallas, even as they try to transition to the next era of Mavericks basketball.
