Signing Ryan Broekhoff

The Mavericks lost key role players in Seth Curry and Doug McDermott to the Portland Trail Blazers and Indiana Pacers. When healthy in 2016-17, Curry shot 42.5 percent from 3-point range, while McDermott shot 49.4 percent from beyond the arc in 26 games after the trade deadline.

To make up for much of the lost shooting, the Mavericks signed Ryan Broekhoff, an insanely accurate sharpshooter. The 27-year-old spent the past three seasons with PBC Lokomotiv Kuban before signing a two-year deal with Dallas.

In 2017-18, he averaged 12.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting a scorching 50.6 percent from beyond the arc on 5.2 attempts per game.

With Luka Doncic being a skilled passer and DeAndre Jordan being mobile enough for off-ball screens, Broekhoff will have more open looks in 2019. Here’s a look at how Jordan was effective with veer screens with J.J. Redick on the Los Angeles Clippers.

This move makes perfect sense for the Mavericks, as it helps them combat their recent losses.
