Landing DeAndre Jordan

Despite getting ditched by DeAndre Jordan three years prior, Dallas harbored no ill will towards the All-Star center and was eager to get his deal done. The Mavs were able to sign the 29-year-old to a one-year, $22.9 million deal.

This deal allows for Dallas to address arguably its biggest weakness throughout the 2017-18 campaign: rebounding. The Mavericks ranked 27th in the league with 41.3 total rebounds per game, while Jordan alone averaged an astounding 15.2 boards per game.

He will also boost the team’s defense and pick-and-roll game as well. Most importantly, Jordan doesn’t limit their salary cap and flexibility moving forward.

With young centers like Powell, Spalding and Antetokounmpo on the roster, it helps for the Mavericks to have such a strong mentor for them all. At the very least, Jordan buys them time to assess which players are worth building around.
