Drafting Jalen Brunson

With the 33rd overall pick, Dallas drafted Jalen Brunson, who somehow slipped to the second round. Brunson was named the Associated Press men’s college basketball player of the year.

He has experience playing in big games, winning two national championships in three years at Villanova. Outside of his own experience, his work ethic stems from his father, Rick Brunson, who spent time on 10 different NBA rosters.

In Summer League, he struggled averaging 6.8 points per game on 22.7 percent shooting from the field. His poor performances didn’t affect his confidence, however.

Brunson has everything in place to become the Mavericks’ sixth man of the future. He is an efficient 3-point shooter and skilled passer. He boasts a high basketball IQ and has two longtime veteran guards in J.J. Barea and Devin Harris in place to help his development.

Grade: A+
