Drafting Isaac Bonga

Many thought the Lakers used the No. 39 overall pick on Isaac Bonga so they could stash him in Europe to develop for a couple of years.

Turns out the Lakers want to develop him locally, under their watch.

The Lakers signed Bonga to a deal before the start of NBA Summer League, making him an official part of the 15-man roster.

Bonga will spend most of the season playing in the G League for the South Bay Lakers, and it’s unlikely he sees one minute of NBA action this season. Since we won’t be seeing much of Bonga this season, it’s hard to give the Lakers a good grade for this move.

Grade: D+
